Scott Hoyer named new Head Trainer

July 2, 2010

The Okanagan Hockey School and Academy announced today that Scott Hoyer is the Head Trainer for the organization.

Hoyer will be in a leadership role, focusing on strength & conditioning development and medical services.  He will work with the five Academy teams as well as the Penticton Lakers throughout the hockey season, and will be involved in many aspects of the Okanagan Hockey School in the summer months.

A Certified Canadian Athletic Therapist with a degree in Physical Therapy and an Advanced Certificate in Athletic Therapy, Scott Hoyer was the strength trainer/ Athletic Therapist for the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL from 2000-2006. Following that, he accepted a position with the Edmonton Oilers as strength conditioning coordinator and Athletic Therapist. Hoyer’s National team experience includes working as Athletic Therapist for the 2001 Canadian Under 18 Gold medal team and the 2003 Canadian World Junior Silver medal team.

“The Okanagan Hockey Academy is a great environment for me,” said Hoyer.  “It’s a vibrant, healthy place in which I can work with young, dedicated hockey players. I look forward to having a positive impact on their growth and development.”

Andy Oakes, President of the Okanagan Hockey Academy, agrees that Hoyer will assist with the development of the Academy players.

“We are very proud to have Scott join our organization,” said Oakes. “His approach to athlete development on the strength and conditioning side combined with his medical knowledge will be a great addition to our program and most importantly this addition will enhance our players’ development on and off the ice.”
